  • Laotian Mother Arrested for Abandoning Infant in Bangkok

Bangkok, Thailand — A 21-year-old Laotian woman, identified only as Koung (pseudonym), has been arrested after confessing to abandoning her infant in a bag.

Thai authorities reported that on 25 September 2025, a baby boy was discovered inside a white bag left in front of a house in Bangkok. Rescuers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation transferred the infant to a children’s hospital, where he was found to be alive and undergoing medical examination.

Police said the mother admitted to abandoning the child, citing her separation from the baby’s father, who resides in Laos, and her inability to provide care. She also revealed she is currently in a new relationship.

The suspect is now in custody and has been handed over to investigators for legal proceedings.
